Week 30

Months ago I proudly declared that my little man was STTN. An abbreviation I saw hundreds of other mommies using, and yearned to use myself. STTN= Sleeping through the night. The rule of thumb seemed to be when your little one reached 5 consecutive hours of sleep your could claim the term. Waking at 12, 2, and 5 however hardly seems like STTN. Well folks this time it's for REAL! After 3 nights in a row (knock on wood) we are Sleeping Through the Night!!! I'm talking 6:30om- 5:30am!!! It only took us 7 1/2 months to get here. The past few days I've woken up and thought:

1. Wow, he did it again, this is the first time he's woken up!

2. Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow...must feed baby NOW...ow, ow, ow, ow... (the girls are still adjusting to the new sleeping arrangements.)

I've been experimenting for the past months deciding what makes good nights and what makes bad nights. For awhile I thought that peas made him sleep good. It seemed every night that he had peas for dinner he slept just that extra bit. Wrong. Next I thought that going to bed later (then 7) made him sleep good. Wrong. It just made him extra tired the next day. Next I thought our special "relaxing," $20 a bottle, lotion made him sleep better. Wrong. It just made him smell good. All my theories had been put to rest until my most recent. The most simplest of all. Not having a 2nd (sometimes 3rd) cup of coffee in the afternoon. Duh! I feel so silly for not thinking of this sooner. 7 months in and we're just now realizing that caffeine can interrupt a babies sleep. Alrighty then.

Nolen insisted on trying on his cousin Peri's tutu
(it may or may not have had anything to do with Mommy.)

  2. Whenever you would talk about drinking coffee on here, I would always think "Man, she's so lucky that caffeine doesn't affect Nolen like it affected me kids". Guess I should have spoken up, huh? I learned the hard way with my first too, so don't feel bad!
