Week 21

I remember being pregnant and thinking "I can't wait to have my old clothes back, my other 'babies' have been hanging in the closet helplessly for the past 10 months. I miss my clothes!" I innocently thought the day the baby popped out I'd have my old wardrobe back. Wrong. Not because they didn't fit, not because they were out of style, but because 99% of them don't have easy access to the milk factory. Who would have thought? Why didn't any of the pregnancy prep books fill me in on this little tid-bit? Why didn't anyone let me know that you go straight from maternity clothing to nursing gear (equally unattractive.) Sigh. Well these days I'm rocking a lot of tank tops (thank goodness it's summer!) One day I'll have those old clothes back. One day I'll be able to look forward to putting together my outfit for the day. Until then I've got my tank tops and nursing bras, watch out Vogue.

On a more positive note, we're going on 5 months strong breastfeeding! I had originally made it my goal to make it to 3 months, then 6... At 6 months I would be returning back to work and thought that might be a good time to stop. Well school (and 6 months) is just around the corner and this momma's not ready to throw in the towel. Little man and I have gotten into such a rhythm, it's just part of our days. It's so good and nutritious for our little man, why stop now? So it looks like we'll be dragging out the pump and dusting it off once again. I'm going to be a teaching, pumping mommy. Why mess with a good thing? Our new breastfeeding goal; until Nolen goes to college (I kid, I kid, 9 months.)

  1. Yeah for you! I was hoping to go a whole year with Easton, but he decided at 3 1/2 months that he was tried of the booby and only wanted the bottle. I just wasn't fast enough for him!

  2. The worst part is the price of nursing wear! I hope you can make it a whole year! I went back to work (teacher, too) and was able to breastfeed until my little one was 14 months! You're going back to work at a good time because at 6 months he's going to be starting solids. It will make it easier on you. One suggestion...before you start back to work, get him use to your pumping schedule and it will make it easier for you milk to come down and pump quicker!

Good luck! Come by when you can...

  3. Hi I'm visiting from 31DBBB on SITS. I wanted you to know that I know how hard it is to return to work after a baby. I work FT and have had 3 kids. I've had to leave my children 3 times. I will tell you that what makes it easier are 2 things: 1) the joy they have when you pick them up you cannot ever forget that kind of reception and 2) finding the right person to care for them sets your mind at ease. We did/do a day care in a woman's home and she watched/watches all of mine. It's nice to know my child is safe while I'm at work. It certainly isn't easy, but you have support like me if you need it.

  4. The pumping is not very much fun, but totally worth it. I am a substitute teacher and spent months pumping in bathrooms.

  5. What a cute picture of Nolen in the toy chest! I am kind of dreading going back to school myself. I like having the summer to do whatever I want whenever I want but on the other hand, I miss my students!

  7. Your baby's red hair is gorgeous. Did you know that the number of red heads in the world is decreasing so red heads are now the big sensation? Whose side of the family has red hair?
