Week 9

Nolen has his first friend, baby Joshua. We met Joshua's parents during childbirth class while his mommy and I were both still big and pregnant. We spotted them as soon as class started that day. There they were, among a crowd of what appeared to be circus freaks (sadly not an exaggeration, one couple worked at a traveling fair.) They looked about our age, and more importantly, NORMAL! We grabbed our first chance to talk to them in the elevator after lunch. We exchanged numbers, kept in touch the next few months, now here we are with our little men playing together. (Baby Joshua was born just 3 weeks before Nolen.)

There is something so nice, so refreshing, about hanging out with other "baby people." They just get it. When a baby decides to cover baby and mommy in explosive poop it's A-OK, baby people get it. When your shirt begins getting two mysterious round circles around your boobs, when your cheeks turn hot and red after one glass of wine because you haven't drank in 13 months, when you have to call it a night at 10pm because it's almost feeding time again, when you have to stop and nurse every two hours, when you make plans to walk at 2:00 but don't actually start walking until 5:00, when you can be perfectly entertained taking pictures of your babies, when you get so excited that the house your at has a changing pad, when all you want to do it talk about babies, well you know...baby people...you ROCK!

Big Day for Little Man

Today was a big day for our little man. He turned two months, finally fit into his blue jeans, went to see Dr. W (now weighs 11 pounds & 10oz, and is 23 3/4" long,) and survived the dreaded 2 month shots. Ugh, those darn shots. Little man was all smiles this morning. Shooting smiles to all the ladies in the waiting room (mommy included, he likes to flirt.) He had no idea what was coming. Those nurses got him, 3 times to be exact, in his tiny little chubby thigh.

He screamed, mommy cried. Please remind me how bad hepatitis really is because it can't be as bad as those shots. As soon as the nurse was gone I was shoved my boob in his screaming little mouth. The power of the boobies, I guess some things never change for boys!

One nap later and all was forgotten. For Nolen at least...

2 months!

I thought one month passed ever-so-quickly. Then I blinked and he's already 2 months, I can't believe it. Two months is a time of baby milestones, and Nolen is no exception. On Monday he'll have the dreaded 2 month shots. The poor little guy has no idea what's coming. I've heard it's 100x harder for mommy then baby and I believe it, I've been dreading these shots for a month now :( He has also mastered the dutch oven. A dutch oven, for those that don't know, is when a person (usually a man) releases a large fart while trapping it and another person under the covers. Nolen's version involves a Mommy, a Baby Nolen, and our nursing cover. He waits until he positioned for feeding time and then dutch ovens (my new verb) his mom. There's no questioning that this ones a true little man! His father is proud. (Below is his secret weapon, adorable and deadly!)

On Monday I took a trip to Babies R Us for a few essentials (It was our big outing of the day!) I had exactly 3 things on my list.

1. Baby wipe warmer (a second to be exact, the same husband who laughed at my first wipe warmer is the same husband who suggested we get a second for our bedroom, funny huh.)

2. A sleep sack (our little man is breaking out of his swaddle every night, it's time to move on, sigh.)

3. And a travel bathtub for our many vacations (we had a traveling bird, and now we have a traveling baby, the boy likes to travel but still needs his bath!)

Well I came out with those three things and about 500 more (sadly only a slight exaggeration.) I wondered up and down every isle. "Oh I didn't know they made those for babies, ooohhh look at these, wow how did I ever live without this?" Babies-R-Us = Crack for mommies. One of my more exciting purchases of the day was a sun shield pop up tent with UV protection. I love nothing more then baking in the sun, and unfortunately my child hates the heat. When we walk outside in the the Florida heat he cries and frowns until we once again enter the air conditioning. We tested it out this week in Amelia Island and I think we have a winner. He played and slept in his new tent for a good two hours! Amen sun tent!

Sunshine Award

I recently received the sunshine award from Bridgetown Baby Momma! (Check out her adorable little guy, and oh yeah, the blog too!) How exciting! I have enjoyed reading her blog and comparing notes on our little men, they are only 2 days apart! Thanks so much, you've made my day!

I would like to pass this award onto another blog that I've enjoyed reading these past few months. It's by a mommy of a very precious little girl, Mommy Burgh. I sometimes feel as though I'm reading a post written by myself, but then quickly realize it's another mommies thoughts. She's funny, honest, and has a killer shopping habit like myself!

Here's to mommy blogging!

Week 7

We have a smiler! And we're not talking gas smiles... we have REAL smiles! Little man is becoming more and more aware and alert everyday. This week he started smiling at funny things that mommy and daddy do. When we find something that gets a smile we do it over and over again until eventually it turns into a frown. See exhibit A.

Then we find a new smile provoker. What gets smiles so far: Songs about poop, asking him if he's a stinky boy (insert high squeaky voice,) calling him handsome or a cutie pie (MomMom found this one,) or simply tapping his nose and chin while making some kind of beeping sounds. It's amazing the things you'll do to get a baby laughing. We might look like lunatics but it's all SO worth it! Those 3am feedings are a little easier when they start and end with a Nolen smile :)

Things that change when you have a baby

• Every day is a surprise.
• Bodily functions are no longer repulsive. In fact, they please you. (Hooray for farts and poop!)
• You look at your baby in the mirror instead of yourself.
• You become a morning person.
• Your love becomes limitless, a superhuman power.
• You finally realize that true joy doesn't come from material wealth.
• You'd rather buy a plastic tricycle than those shoes that you've been dying to have
• You don't mind going to bed at 9 p.m. on Friday night
• Silence? What's that?
• You no longer rely on a clock — your baby now sets your schedule
• You give parents with a screaming child an 'I-know-the-feeling' look instead of a 'Can't-they-shut-him-up?' one."
• You learn that taking a shower is a luxury.
• You realize that you can love a complete stranger
• You find yourself wanting to make this world a better place.
• You finally figure out the real reason you have those breasts!
• You can have the most wonderful conversation using only vowel sounds like "ahhh" and "oooo."
• You respect your parents and love them in a new way.
• You find that your baby's pain feels much worse than your own.
• You believe once again in the things you believed in as a child.
• You lose touch with the people in your life whom you should have banished years ago.
• Your heart breaks much more easily.
• You think of someone else 234,836,178,976 times a day.

Week 6- Happy Easter!!!

So Nolen and I went shopping this week. I've learned how to properly time these things so that we can get a pretty decent day of shopping in. After little ones morning feeding we jump in the car and drive promptly to our destination of the day. I know that if we're at the Florida mall we need to be close to Nordstrom around feeding time so we can use their wonderful "mothers nursing room." If we're at Milena we must stay close to Neimans for the same reason. If we choose to go to the outlets we need to bring a pumped bottle unless we want to sit in JCrews dressing room and nurse. See, I have figured it all out in these past 5 weeks! On Wednesday I decided to head to Marshalls. I knew that I had 1 hour, possibly 2 before he would need to eat. Well Nolen decided otherwise. He went from a deep sleep to a hungry scream. There I was, trapped in the shoe isle. I figured that the women who was trapping me in the isle would hear the baby, see my urgency to get out of the isle, and MOVE! You would think. Instead she turns to me and says, "Um, I think your baby is hungry." Oh jeez, you think lady, what would I have done without you. I leave angry, calling that women some choice words in my head! Fast forward to later that day. I head downtown to meet a friend for coffee (oh Mollie how I've missed you!) We're enjoying our time, catching up, little man starts to cry so I know it's time to eat. Mollie holds him as I get under my hooter hider (aka nursing cover) and get things ready for business. I look up and who do I see, THE MARSHALLS LADY! Ugh, here I am again, crying baby in tow. She glares, I sigh. What are the chances!

I'm off to work, I've got my tie on!

Tough day at the office!
